Ceremony is a Record Store Day exclusive single featuring two new unheard tracks from Cincinnati’s Wussy, released by Damnably records on Gold Vinyl. Limited to 533 copies, 300 of which
went to Shake It Records of Cincinnati for exclusive sale in North America.
Following hot on the heels of the bands 6th album “Forever Sounds” (released March 4th), this single features a noise drenched cover of the Joy Division/New Order classic “Ceremony” and “Days and Hours”- a lush slow-burner filled with gargling guitars, almost orchestral swathes of noise. Lisa and Chuck duet over the desolation which at times approaches Joy Division’s more somber moments.
“If Michael Stipe Co-wrote songs with Morrissey…then hired Niel Young, Crazy horse and the Cowboy Junkies to play them, and asked Kevin Shields to mix them, then the results would be… a bit like Forever Sounds” The Sunday Times
**** SPIN “Wussy’s ragged Ohio racket hits biblical proportions on ‘Forever Sounds.‘” (Album of the Week – 8/10)
“It’s the sound you come back for” – Robert Christgau/Noisey A-
“The album is full of darkly valiant shoegaze, music that is cozy enough to hibernate under.” Pitchfork
**** Drowned in Sound
**** Artrocker ‘Album Of the Week‘
**** AllMusic “Given how consistently good Wussy have become, calling Forever Sounds a masterpiece would probably be wildly premature, but this is a deeply satisfying work that reveals new pleasures with repeated listens, and reminds listeners this band is still expanding on what they do best.”
“Swirling, psych-rock riffs that expand outward seemingly without end” The A.V. Club.
“If you’re not familiar with the fuzzy dream pop psych of Cincinnati’s Wussy, you’re in for a treat.” – Noisey
